I am not the happiest person in the world... but I at least try to be positive and to at least smile to people...
As I walk through my office I notice that people walk with their heads down and scowls on their faces... People that I have worked with for years for some reason cannot bring themselves to smile or to even look me in the eye... I am not the only one that has noticed this either, so I hope that it isn't me! Do I smell? Am I creepy?
I work for a nonprofit where we are supposed to be engaging youth in a positive happy manner, yet some of these people cannot even do it with each other. No "hellos", No "good mornings", or even a simple smile! I was always taught to smile to people, to ask how their day is, to ask how they are doing.
I even try to smile when I am not in a good mood because when I get a smile back it makes me feel better... yet from some people here all I get is a frown or a sideways glance... I honestly wonder what kinda or what quality of work or relationship some of these people can build with youth that are already at a disadvantage and weary of adults.
I bet if some of these people smiled more, even if they started out by faking it, they would eventually be happier!
Fake it til you feel it! You make me smile...
ReplyDeleteThis is so totally true! I thought I was a freak for noticing it but I guess it's just not me...
