Causes....Just because...

"I have a problem with causes...", a friend of mine the other day made this comment on a social network and it got me thinking about causes that people believe in and how after working for and on "causes" for the past few years of my life I can honestly say that I think most of them are bullshit and most people's desire to "help" is far from adequate.

What do I mean? Well take for instance a cause like the environment... "Save the environment!" has been the rallying call of a lot of people in the Bay Area and else where for awhile. However, if people were to really look at what is NEEDED and I mean ACTUALLY needed in order to make a change people would think twice.... Cutting back "emissions" i.e. buying a hybrid, "carbon taxes" (bullshit in their own right), etc etc etc etc. are simply another way people in the business world capitalize on a trend. Tell people that there are major issues with all of these things and that they in FACT are NOT helping and they will call you a traitor to the cause.... Because the only thing that these things do are to make people feel better about themselves.... And THAT IS IT!

Another example are the causes that well frankly are bullshit to begin with... "Save the Bees".... ummmm seriously? SERIOUSLY!? There are people DYING in our country from lack of health care and good food... or food at all and people give money to "Save the FUCKING BEES!?" Now dont get me wrong I see WHY we need bees... but no one knows why they are going away (and I mean scientists here)... and frankly there are more pressing matters at hand...

So what do I think people should do that feel guilty? GIVE FOOD TO PEOPLE THAT ARE HUNGRY.... DIRECTLY! Go outside and find a person that needs food and give it to them. Get your fucking hands dirty! Its nice to think that finding a cause on some online website and then making a big todo about it to your friends and donating some money to "Save the Fucking Bees" might change something but really it doesnt... it doesnt change anything... meet someone who needs something and talk to them.. give to them... make a persons life better PERSONALLY, now that is a Cause!
